Oregon's Willamette Valley is home to 99% of the hazelnut crop grown in the U.S. where western Oregon's unique combination of heat and cold, sun and rain, and rich soil produce the tastiest hazelnuts in the world. The first cultured hazelnut trees were planted in Oregon in the late 1800's. Since then we have seen a rise in the number of hazelnut orchards, as their popularity continues to increase. In 2006 hazelnut production in Oregon was 41,000 tons.
